I wish to make the experience of commissioning and sitting for a portrait a stress free and enjoyable one.
Ideally for a portrait commission, I like to meet the client and subject, prior to the sitting, at least once to discuss the brief - size, medium, location, completion time and price.
I usually require two sittings where it is vital that the sitter is as comfortable as possible.
The first, of three to four hours, involves drawing and photographing the subject, to the brief. With these elements I can work further on my own, producing sketches for the client’s approval.
A second sitting is for adjusting the final pose and for producing more detailed drawings, as well as taking more photographs.
The portrait will then be completed in my studio, with the reference of my sketches and photographs.
The whole process would require a minimum of a month to completion.
